South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust launched its e-job planning project for Allied Health Professionals (AHPs) in August 2023. Although there was some initial staff resistance, this was effectively addressed through a well-planned and executed communications strategy. By the end of the first year, 1,630 staff were actively using the system, achieving an overall compliance rate of over 90%.
Paediatric OT Service:
• Reduced waiting time by 78% over the year.
• Admin reduced by 360 hours per year and travel reduced by 180 hours (540 hours total).
• More efficient skill mix with qualified staff assessing the children and setting treatment plans with band 4 skilled staff for groupwork and treatment interventions.
• Group therapy increased by 250 hours per year, allowing more children to be treated.
• Reported job satisfaction increased.
Senior Clinical Managers previously working over hours:
• Initially had +120 hour of TOIL to be taken.
• Job Planning identified 10 hours per week over contracted hours.
• Root cause analysis enabled historical ways of working to be challenged, enabling a gradual reduction to just 6 hours TOIL.
• After reviewing the wider team, they found over 500 hours of TOIL, which was gradually reduced by more than 50% without loss of service.
